About Me

The Beginning

My journey into the world of fabrics, sewing, and knitting started way back in my school days. After scoring an NVQ in printed textiles at college and a degree in constructed textiles at university, The Flat of Kat came to life. It took some years to turn my crafting passion into a proper shop, but I’m thrilled to be here, spending countless happy days in my sewing room.

Me

I call sunny Brighton in the UK home, where I live with my husband and our little superhero. From part-time jobs, including being an air hostess, I’m proud to say I now work full-time from my home sewing studio. I even sometimes find time to create clothes just for me! Alongside my love for textiles, I also have a soft spot for baking and always have something sweet on hand. If you’re curious about my other creations, catch me on Instagram at @theflatofkat.

The Flat Of Kat

My inspiration for The Flat of Kat? That would be my little man. The superhero capes were born out of his birthday party, a cool alternative to the typical plastic toy-filled party bags. Taking a conscious step towards eco-friendliness, I use recycled packaging and repurpose my fabric scraps wherever I can. The superhero theme has expanded beyond that initial birthday celebration, and now I offer a growing collection of additional items, including superhero backpacks, and personalised badges to name a few! Thanks a bunch for the ongoing custom orders – you’re the reason The Flat of Kat keeps evolving!
